Leather Guide
Know your leather before you buy
Not all "genuine leather" labels mean the same thing. Here's the grading most workshops won't explain on the tag.
Full-Grain
The outermost layer of the hide, left uncorrected. Shows natural grain, scars and pores — and gets better with age. What we use for every piece above.
Top-Grain
Sanded to remove imperfections, then finished with a protective coat. More stain-resistant, less character, common in mid-range goods.
Genuine Leather
A marketing term more than a grade — split layers pressed and coated to look uniform. Durable enough, but it won't develop a patina.
Bonded Leather
Scraps and fibres glued onto a fabric backing. Looks the part on day one, cracks and peels within a year of regular use.

Edges are thinned and folded so seams sit flat and wear evenly.

Hand saddle-stitched with waxed linen thread — no lockstitch machines.
Burnish
Edges burnished, sealed and inspected under raking light before it ships.
Care & Longevity
Leather isn't low-maintenance. That's the point.
Condition every 3 months
A neutral leather balm keeps fibres supple and prevents the surface cracking that dryness causes over time.
Let it dry naturally
If it gets wet, blot — never rub — and air dry away from direct heat. Radiators and hairdryers cause the leather to shrink and stiffen.
Store it breathing
Use the cotton dust bag we ship with every order. Plastic traps moisture and can strip the natural oils out of the hide.
Let the patina happen
Darkening and light scuffing aren't damage — they're the hide recording where it's been. Resist the urge to over-polish it away.

Most pieces soften noticeably within 2–3 weeks of regular use. Wallets and belts break in fastest; jackets and bags take a season to fully relax at the stress points.
Yes — every Wrenfield & Hide piece carries a lifetime restitching guarantee. Ship it back with your order number and we'll repair or rebuild the seams at no charge, materials excluded.
All hides come from small European tanneries using vegetable-tanning, a slower process free of heavy-metal chrome salts, and every batch is traceable to the tannery of origin.
We ship worldwide with full insurance. Most domestic orders arrive in 3–5 business days; international orders typically take 7–14 days depending on customs.
30 days, unconditionally. If a piece isn't right, send it back unused in its dust bag for a full refund or exchange — no restocking fee.
